Old Age Security

The Old Age Security Office should be notified as soon as possible following the death. At this time they will cancel the benefits of the deceased. The estate is entitled to the cheque that is issued in the same month that the death occurs. This maybe deposited directly into the amount of the deceased. Should a cheque inadvertently arrive the following month, it must be returned immediately and marked deceased. When calling the Old Age Security Office, be prepared to give the following:

You may call the Medical Services Plan of B.C. to inform them of the death. Please have the B.C. Care Card of the deceased available. A note explaining that the death has occurred along with the Care Card should be mailed to:

Criminal Injury Compensation

The Criminal Injury Compensation Act of B.C. provides compensation within certain limitations for personal injury or death resulting from a crime in B.C.. The Workers Compensation Board administers Criminal Injury Compensation for the Province. You may contact the office at:

Generally, funeral and burial grants are available for the deceased veterans who at the time of their death were receiving one or more of the following:

Property Transfers:

Property Titles owned in joint tenancy may be transferred into the surviving spouses name prior to probate by presenting the original death certificate to the Land Titles Registry Office. A form must be filled out. For further information cotnact:
