Obituary for James Sedun

James Sedun
SEDUN, James
January 25, 1930 − March 6, 2018
James Sedun passed away on March 6, 2018, surrounded by family at his residence at Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver. He was born in Russia and immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 6 months. He lived the majority of his life in Winnipeg but moved to Vancouver, B.C. in 1998 to be close to his grandchildren. He was well respected in his career as a salesman, working many years with Ethicon Sutures and retiring from Bard Medical Products. The retirement function held in his honour revealed the degree to which he was respected and well−liked, not only as a hard− working salesman but as a kind and loving human being. Being a natural athlete, he enjoyed swimming, golf and tennis and loved to watch professional sports on TV (hockey, football, baseball, golf and tennis). But his greatest pleasure, observed by all who knew him, was his love and devotion to his family, immediate and extended. He married Doreen Orr in 1955 with whom he had 3 children. He is predeceased by his parents, Katherine and Steve, brothers George, Chester, Orest and Victor, sister−in−law June and niece Heather. He is survived by his children Cynthia (Randy), Gregg (Alison), Glenn (Yvonne) and his grandchildren Carson, Rhiannon, Kelsey and Trinity, sister Lil, brother Len, sister−in−law Mary and his nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. A loving and sensitive man, he demonstrated his devotion to his family and friends by making it a priority in his life to spend time with the people he loved. He expressed his love in beautiful letters, through generous gifts and with wonderful meals, like his famous burgers and shrimp appetizers. He maintained a healthy lifestyle and started each morning at the gym with a bike ride, swim and weights. It was only dementia that finally slowed him down, and finally a hip replacement that accelerated the disease. When he moved to a full−care facility, he still managed to socialize with staff and residents with his eyes and smile alike and was known for his sweet manner. He will be missed in this world but we are calmed by the knowledge of the peace that he is now experiencing, a peace he so well deserves. A celebration of life will be held in his memory in Vancouver, the date and time to be announced.
